How to Unclog Artist Block

It's a devastating thing for an artist to feel they've lost their inspiration, to encounter a creative block. But suffering from artist's block doesn't mean you've lost your artistic ability. Artist block can be overcome.

Invariably it will happen. It's something that happens to all creative beings and all beings are born to create something. Within each purpose beats a heart that longs to be, do and have in this world. When a creative person suffers from an artist block or has lost their inspiration to create it is a devastating experience. Life energy is seemingly drained and the person is left empty in desperation.

Then fear takes over. Fear that there is no longer purpose in life, no reason for being, no hope for the future. Someone who suffers from artist block will Find Excuses And Reasons (F.E.A.R.) why she cannot possibly create that day or 'should' give up the dream to pursue some other, inauthentic, vocation. Or, she will despair day in and day out over the inability to create and the lack of inspiration. In this despair she will further drive that which she longs for even further from her reach. It can become an agonizing and soulfully vicious cycle of existence.

If your heart literally aches from artist block then know this: your truth is that you are an artist. That's why your heart aches. You are not expressing who you are at your deepest core. You were born to fully express your artistic potential. Anything short of this achievement will leave you feeling a little less whole, striving to reach for an expansion of your artful communication to the world.

In that moment, the moment you are awash in this truth you have a choice. You can choose to ignore this truth, give up in fear and go find some other life to live; creating someone else's truth. You can beat yourself up over your lack of inspiration further driving you away from what your heart is calling you to become. Or you can take a deep breath, center yourself in the truth of who you are, and ask your inner being what it wants to express. Then pick up your script, your paint brush, your instrument, your pencil, seat yourself at your computer - place yourself in a position where you can begin whatever it is you wish to create.

If inspiration doesn't present itself immediately that's ok. Every bit of inspiration that you long for is already within you. All you have to do is allow it to flow. The more you resist your block the more power and energy you add to this block. Allow yourself to be blocked for the moment and begin anyway. Try a new approach to the character you're portraying, put some paint on the canvas, write the next line in your book even if the line is "I have no idea what comes next" and then take another step until the expression flows. Allow those first few forward movements to be real stinkers if that's what needs to get out of the way so your creativity can flow again. Let go of any judgment that what you create has to be good. Sometimes it is the woefully errant advancement that will lead to the opening of your creative resources once again.

Let go. Know that blocks are inevitable and that you have all the power you need within you to fully express your artistic potential. Honor your truth and your will be and act in the direction of your dream. You will live in alignment with your purpose in life following your own inner wisdom, the voice of your intuition, your higher being, your muse.

July - European alternative singer Bjrk and pop princess Svetlana unite for the From Iceland To Moldova Tour. Both girls tour to the United States, UK, France, Japan and elsewhere.

July 17 Guns N' Roses play their final gig on their world famous Use Your Illusion tour, this will be the last time the original band play together on stage, they break up between 1993-1999

August 10 - Mayhem guitarist Euronymous is stabbed to death by Count Grishnackh in Oslo, Norway, causing the temporary end of Mayhem.[citation needed]

August 28 - Bruce Dickinson plays his final show with Iron Maiden (until his return in 1999). The show was broadcast on British television, and later released on VHS and dvd.[citation needed]

Bliss n Eso, Running on Air - for the hip hop crowd, Sydney-based Bliss n Eso have released their fourth studio album, Running on Air which debuted on the Australian ARIA charts at number one in early August. Escaping the hectic distractions of urban life, the group stowed themselves away in rural Victoria for the six months it took to produce the album - and their surroundings feature prominently in the lyrics and for arrangements such as "Down by the River".

Key West, Nonsmoker Music Lover’s Paradise

Some folks have a real problem with secondhand smoke. Allergies, sinus problems, and being susceptible to upper respiratory infections make being in smoky environments very difficult. If you are also a person who enjoys seeing live musical performances, being a nonsmoker can really put a crimp into your fun. Smoky bars are often the best place to catch live acts. Frequently the only hope is outdoor events and festivals in the summer months.

A visit to Key West Florida can be a delightful experience for the nonsmoker. It is a town known for it’s bars and live music. But, the best part is being in a tropical climate where the definition of a bar often means a room with few or even no walls. Yes folks, you are pretty much outdoors. The cool tropical evening breezes and funky overhead fans usually keep that nasty smoke out of your face. You can just sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

If you have never been to Key West, you should know it is as far south as you can go in the continental United States. It is at the very southern tip of Florida, at the end of a string of interconnected islands known popularly as the Keys. A series of long bridges take you from island to island right over the ocean waves. For those of you who may have a fear of heights it is nice to know that even the longest of these bridges pretty much skim along only 20 feet or so from the waters surface. The almost 100 mile drive from the Florida mainland to Key West is a pure pleasure to enjoy.

The main street in Key West, Duval Street, is only one mile long from the ocean on the Atlantic side of the island to the Mallory Square Dock on the Gulf of Mexico side. It is a street made for fun. Cafes, restaurants, gift shops, art galleries, and best of all bars and beer gardens line both sides of the street for almost it’s total length. This is a place made for nightlife.

Most folks visit Key West in the winter months to escape harsh northern weather. You should be aware of the fact that this is the busiest time to visit. Rooms may be hard to come by and attractions may be very crowded. Late summer and fall is hurricane season. There are fewer people then, but it may be too much of an adventure some folks. That leaves the summer.

Summers are hot and humid in this sultry tropical paradise. Fortunately there is a simple plan you can follow to enjoy this less crowded time of year for your visit to Key West. Find a place to stay near Duval Street. On the Atlantic side of the island is best. It is less congested and affords the opportunity to walk the full length of this exciting street daily. The first and most important thing is to always sleep late. It’s vacation folks!

Sometime after 8 or 9 AM show your face to the world. You will have a couple of early day cooler hours to play tourist a bit. Hit one of the several nice museums, visit the Hemingway house, check out the aquarium, spend some money at one of the many gift shops, or any other touristy activity you can come up with. The important thing is to get back inside to some air conditioning by 11 AM. Eat some lunch, read a book, take a nap, cuddle with your honey, or just goof off.

By about 5 PM, head on down Duval and find some supper. Timing is important. You must be clear down Duval sitting in a dockside café in Mallory Square eating Key Lime pie and drinking Jamaican beer as the sun sets over the Gulf. You will not want to miss that. It is one of the top five sunsets in the world.

When it’s dark and much cooler it is time to slowly make your way back across the island. There is music everywhere. It echoes in the street and fills the mind with pleasure. There is jazz, blues, country, pop, island music, and funky lounge acts in every bar and sidewalk café along both sides of the street. And, since you are basically outside in the open air, smoke is not a problem. It is a nonsmoker’s paradise for sure. Take as long as you want strolling up Duval. You got all night. Tomorrow you are going to do it all over again. Remember to always sleep late. You are going to need all the sleep you can get.
